Class Project: Crafting a tissue box for manufacturing processes
Project type
Crafting a tissue box for manufacturing process class
Date
2018
In my manufacturing processes class, I undertook the challenge of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing a tissue box, developing my skills in prototyping, 2D Rhino drawings, laser cutting, table saw operation, router use, bandsaw work, and Olfa knife precision. Beginning with a foam core prototype for visualization, I experimented with a minimalist design but found it too plain. To enhance the aesthetics, I opted for layered plywood, which not only added visual appeal but also conveyed a calming and earthy quality. Employing a laser cutter, I crafted the tissue box parts from white acrylic, complemented by a template for precise mitering to ensure strong, seamless joints. This project showcased how the combination of different materials, acrylic and plywood, can elevate design, even on a tight timeline.
